The president interjected himself into the classroom today. A number of parents opted out of his appearance by keeping their children at home. I would hope that he along with every other politician on the planet would see this as a sign NOT to involve yourselves in the classrooms of America.
Bush would have been reamed had he tried this. Luckily he and his 37 I.Q. points never made it to every classroom in the country. We were spared that embarrassment.
The President has an interesting and compelling story. He epitomizes a conservative (WORK HARD, APPLY YOURSELF AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHING) life and espouses the liberal (NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU WORK, SOMEONE WILL UNDOUBTEDLY SCREW YOU) mantra. He should have the same expectations of everyone as he does himself.
Not everyone will succeed and that’s unfortunate. However, when the bar is lowered so far so as to allow everyone to succeed, the results are dangerous. The “dumbing down” of America is at hand. No one wants anyone to feel bad about being less capable even though everyone is to one degree or another.
Not everyone can sing like Barbara Streisand or Celine Dionne. Not everyone can play guitar like Eddie Van Halen or Joe Satriani. It is the inevitable highs and lows that command how we all are. They set the marketplace for individuality. We utilize the outcomes to determine what is important to each of us. It sets our personal value.
We work hard to be the best we can be. That’s all anyone can do. No one is entitled to succeed at anything. No one. If we are all guaranteed success, what would be the point of trying? We should use the President’s story as a goal for us to achieve. If we strive to be the best, put in long hours studying and work our asses off, we too can be president. Regardless of our race, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation. We can do it. Yes we can!
